PEORIA, Ariz. - Peoria firefighters put out a blaze in a garbage truck Thursday morning.

They encountered the Republic Services truck around 9:20 a.m. near 80th Avenue and Cactus Road, seeing heavy smoke and flames coming from both the front and the rear. Peoria fire officials said the truck was mostly filled with cardboard.

Nearby electrical lines complicated issues for Peoria Fire Engine 191, but the firefighters were able to get the fire under control.

The driver was able to get out of the truck with no injuries, and APS did not expect any power outages related to the incident.

Cactus Road was shut down from 79th Avenue to 83rd Avenue for a couple of hours.

Investigators have not determined the cause of the fire.
