Maricopa County Animal Care and Control is asking pet owners to help keep their dogs and cats safe this New Year's Eve.

Shelter workers say many pets are spooked by the festivities.

Here are two things to remember:

1. Bring pets inside for the night and try to drown out loud sounds.

2. Make sure your pet has a current ID, whether it's a tag, a microchip or both.

"New Year's Eve and the days following New Year's Eve are one of the busiest times for us at Animal Care and Control," said MCACC spokesperson Melissa Gable. "So we want to try and remind pet owners to keep their pets safe this holiday because we do find ourselves picking up a lot of strays at the beginning of the new year and it's not how we want to start 2017."

Shelter workers say if your pet does go missing during the holiday, you can use the website to help find them.
