Fire rips through vacant building in downtown Phoenix

The investigation on how the fire started is ongoing.

PHOENIX - Phoenix firefighters battled a second-alarm fire Thursday morning near 5th Avenue and Van Buren Street.

According to Phoenix fire, crews found heavy fire in a two-story vacant building.

Fire officials say the flames burned through the roof shortly after the crews arrived, so they went defensive. No injuries were reported.

The fire spread to a nearby building north of the original fire, officials say.

Initially, there is no word on how the fire was started.
