TEMPE, Ariz. (AP) - The iconic Big Surf Waterpark in Tempe will be closed on one of the hottest days of the year as park officials assess the damage from an overnight fire.
The blaze that broke out Sunday night damaged a restroom facility but was quickly contained. No one was injured.
Big Surf General Manager Bob Pena says the park will be closed Monday but should re-open on Tuesday. Pena says the closure will allow workers to assess the damage and clean up the facility.
Big Surf opened in 1969 and featured a wave machine that allowed people to surf in its huge pool. The park has since been greatly expanded and features several water slides and other attractions.
