PHOENIX - Firefighters put out an apartment fire near 83rd Avenue and McDowell Road Thursday night.

Crews said the fire started just before 9 p.m. and consumed two apartments. The bottom floor apartment was fully involved with fire when firefighters arrived.

According to firefighters, the fire was spreading into the apartment above on the second floor.

Crews were able to stop the fire from spreading to two more nearby apartments.

A family living upstairs was able to escape, and it is believed the downstairs apartment was vacant.

No injuries were reported.

Fire investigators are trying to determine the cause of the fire.
