Father of mom left for dead: 'My daughter did not deserve to go that way'

The woman's parents are working to provide for their daughter's 3-year-old daughter and 1-year-old son after she was killed by a hit-and-run driver on I-10 near Eloy.

GILBERT, Ariz- The family of 22-year-old woman hit and left for dead along Interstate 10 searches for answers as police search for a suspect.

The parents of Yvette Marie Gills, a mother of two little kids, believe she got out of a car late Sunday night and was walking along the I-10 when she was hit a killed by a driver near Eloy.

“She managed to crawl to the side of the road and died there,” said Chris Gills, Yvette’s father.

“People called the police, but because where it was, no one could get to her soon enough,” added Maureen Gills, Yvette’s mother.

Her family says she was living on her own in Chandler and working to provide for her 3-year-old daughter and 1-year-old son. Those kids are now being taken care of by Yvette’s parents.

Amid searching for answers, her family also wants justice to be served.

“My daughter did not deserve to go that way,” said Yvette’s father.

The incident is currently under investigation, and the Arizona Department of Public Safety is asking anyone that may have been in the area that witnessed the incident or has information about this incident to please contact the DPS Duty Office at 602-223-2212.
