A little more than a week after a newborn baby was discovered abandoned in a Tempe parking lot, several people have contacted the state inquiring about the girl.
"We have received many, many interested parties wanting to adopt this child," said Cynthia Weiss, Director of Communications for the Arizona Department of Child Safety.
Weiss said she could not comment on the health of the child for confidentiality reasons. She said generally speaking, young children fair better in obtaining foster families compared to older children.
"Our true need is for foster families that are willing to take older children in their teens or possibly sibling groups," Weiss said.
Individuals interested in becoming foster parents can go to the DCS website to learn more about training and guidelines involved with foster care.
