'Thank You Jesus' signs sharing more than just a message

The Thank You Jesus Movement has sold about 115,000 signs so far and they've grown to sell garden flags, bracelets and magnets. But sales aren't what this is all about.

ASHEBORO, N.C. -- You've probably seen the signs before. A yellow sign, with "Thank You Jesus" written in big black letters.

"Yellow is like a sunrise, and Easter is kind of related to a sunrise," explains Lucas Hunt.

Ever since 18-year-old Hunt started making the signs a few years ago as an Easter project, he hasn't stopped. The Thank You Jesus Movement has sold about 115,000 signs so far and they've grown to sell garden flags, bracelets and magnets. It's expanded beyond Easter with a worldwide message.

But sales aren't what this is all about.

"It was very clear to us that we weren't supposed to make any money off of it," Hunt explains.

He says it was God's will to give away the profits, so he and his team started a non-profit called the Thank You Jesus Mission to give out grants to organizations in need.

The latest winner is Summer Russell. She found out on Good Friday that her organization, Child Evangelism Fellowship, is getting $5,000.

"The signs are awesome," she says. "Ever since I saw them when they first came out, I've been a fan, I've been on board."

The message the signs spread, is one her organization does, too. She leads the CEF chapter in Randolph and Davidson counties. She says the grant money will go toward their summer ministry, where teenagers teach younger kids about the gospel. She says they sometimes have up to 700 kids at their summertime club ministry.

"I'm very excited at what the Lord is doing through this movement and how it's just having a ripple effect on so many people and so many lives."

Another organization to win a grant is Faith Youth Initiatives out of Salisbury. The organization focuses on spreading the word of Jesus to kids. They used money from Thank You Jesus Mission for a bus to help their own endeavors.

For Hunt, it all comes down to spreading the message. The Thank You Jesus signs are now in all 50 states and in 10 other countries around the world.

"Every sign planted is our ultimate goal."
