FLORENCE, Ariz. - An employee with the Red Rock Correctional Center in Eloy has been arrested and faces charges of sexual misconduct with a minor.

Police began investigating the sexual misconduct on Monday, after a concerned citizen reported he had observed an adult male and teenage girl “making out” in the Anthem/Merill Ranch area, according to the Florence Police Department.

During an interview, the 16-year-old girl told police she had been in a relationship with 46-year-old Paul Scott Thornton for almost a year.

She told police the relationship became sexual in nature in April, 2017.

Investigators said they determined that Thornton was aware of the girl’s age.

Florence Police arrested Thornton on Friday. He was booked into the Pinal County Jail.

He faces four counts of sexual misconduct with a minor, and according to police, there could be additional charges.
