CORDES JUNCTION, Ariz. - One horse had to be euthanized after a pickup truck pulling a horse trailer carrying eight horses overturned on I-17 near Cordes Junction Friday morning, the Arizona Department of Public Safety said.

According to DPS, the other horses were placed into two separate trailers which arrived to the scene of the crash.

The driver and passenger in the truck were taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The southbound lanes of I-17 were closed at Cordes Junction. ADOT said traffic delays extended about eight miles from the crash. The northbound lanes of I-17 were not affected.

ADOT advised drivers to use SR-169 or SR-69 as alternate routes.

There's no estimated time for reopening the lanes.
