The child was cleaned and wrapped up, laying on a changing table in a public restroom near the rental car center, which is outside of the security checkpoints.

TUCSON (KVOA) -- The Tucson Airport Authority confirms a newborn baby was found abandoned inside a restroom at Tucson International Airport Sunday night.

The child was cleaned and wrapped up, laying on a changing table in a public restroom near the rental car center, which is outside of the security checkpoints.

Tucson Airport Police and Fire Department gave the child first aid, before taking the newborn to the hospital.

Officials did not provide any information on the child's gender.

The mother has not been located.

The Tucson Airport Authority wants to remind people that newborn children can be dropped off at designated safe havens including fire stations and hospitals without fear of criminal prosecution.
