GRAND CANYON NATIONAL PARK - A 70-year-old woman survived a 50-foot fall into a deep crack near the Grand Canyon Skywalk Wednesday afternoon.
The Mohave County Sheriff's Office said a helicopter crew and on-ground personnel responded to the scene around 12:30 p.m.
The woman was wedged in the crack, which was about 10 yards from the canyon. She reported falling a few more inches each time she took a deep breath, officials said.
They set up a rope system and lowered a team member down into the crack to secure the victim, who they pulled out.
She was airlifted to a Las Vegas hospital with several cuts, scratches and bruises, according to the sheriff's office.
