Suspect wanted in Phoenix armed robbery

The man walked into a Subway near 35th Avenue and Thomas Road threatening to shoot the clerk and demanding money.

PHOENIX - Police are searching for a suspect accused of holding up two Subway store clerks at gunpoint, ordering them to hand over the money.

“Once he gets inside the store, he has that gun in his hand and he’s clearly trying to hide who he is by pulling his shirt over his face,” said Sgt. Jamie Rothschild of Silent Witness.

A suspect walked into a Subway near 35th Avenue and Thomas Road threatening to shoot the clerk and demanding money. The security camera was rolling the whole time.

“He keeps grabbing the shirt near his face,” he said. “…and sometimes if you’re grabbing something with one hand, the other hand can kind of tighten up too and that could’ve caused the gun to go off.”

Luckily it didn’t. In the video you can see a second clerk gets involved. The two complied and the suspect took off.

“Did he go into an adjacent apartment or business or did he have someone waiting for him? We don’t know,” said Rothschild.

It happened on April 10th at about 2:15 pm. Police still don’t have any solid leads. That’s why detectives are relying on the public.

“When they see people running through a neighborhood and maybe later they find out that a robbery occurred, it’s not inconceivable they know who that person is, they just didn’t know what they had done,” he said. “We want to make sure that we get him in custody.”

The suspect is described as a white male between 20 and 30 years old. He’s between 5’9” and 5’11” and weighs 150 and 180 pounds. He was last seen wearing a black t-shirt, blue jeans and black socks with black sandals. He was also wearing a black hat with gray on the front. Unfortunately, detectives don’t have a vehicle description.
