Ricardo Garcia is accused of brutally running over and killing his live in girlfriend, Anjelica Moraga, in front of Moraga's two young children.
Newly released court documents reveal the events leading up to the deadly encounter.
On Sunday, Phoenix police say the couple reportedly got into an argument earlier in the day and the suspect took off in their GMC Yukon SUV.
Documents show that when Moraga realized the car seats for her children, ages 2 and 3, were still in the SUV the suspect was driving, she went looking for him.
Investigators say she found him not far from their home parked in the parking lot of a local strip club.
Witnesses say when his girlfriend approached Garcia's vehicle she saw him and another woman inside.
According to witnesses, the couple got into an argument then a physical fight. That’s when Garcia, 26, used the Yukon to violently ram his girlfriend's car which had her children inside.
Police say they were buckled into the adult seat belts in the back seat.
Investigators say Garcia then turned and drove directly at Morgana, hitting her with the front passenger side of the SUV.
As she fell to the ground, witnesses say the suspect turned his vehicle around, paused for a short time, then accelerated, completely running over his girlfriend.
Morgana was later pronounced dead at the hospital.
Police said that initially Garcia told them he blacked out during the incident because he was drunk but later he admitted to running Moraga over because he was mad she had hit him.
Officers said Garcia fled the scene after the incident but was found a short distance away his girlfriend's brothers who got into a physical fight with him.
Police soon arrived at that scene and arrested him.
He’s been charged with first-degree murder and a series of aggravated assault charges and is being held in jail on a $500,000 bond.
