PHOENIX - An officer was injured Friday morning while trying to detain a suspect, according to police.

The incident began in Mesa when officers responded to a commercial robbery call. A vehicle was seen speeding away from the area, police say.

According to officials, the air unit found the vehicle and officers attempted a traffic stop, but the vehicle failed to stop.

Police say the vehicle came to a stop near 48th Street and Cheyenne in Phoenix and the driver ran.

Responding officers located the suspect with the help of a Mesa K9 officer. During the arrest, an officer and the suspect received bites. The injuries are not considered to be serious, according to police.

Authorities say both were transported to the hospital to be treated for their injuries.

The investigation is ongoing.
