Man blames drugs after admitting to following woman off bus and sexually assaulting her

GLENDALE, Ariz. - A man faces sexual assault charges after police say he followed a woman off a bus, held her against a wall and tried to pull her pants down.

According to the arrest documents, the woman got on a Valley Metro bus at 59th Avenue and Camelback Road heading northbound and sat in the rear row.

Demetrius Burns, 27, a homeless man who lives in Glendale, got on the same bus at 59th and Peoria avenues and sat next to the woman, according to police.

Police said Burns put his hand on the woman's leg while talking to her and grabbed her face to try to kiss her.

The woman pulled away and told Burns she did not want to kiss him, police said.

She then told Burns she had to leave and started to get off the bus at 59th Avenue and Country Gables Drive.

Documents state the driver of the bus appeared to be worried about Burns and asked the woman if she was OK. The woman responded that she was because she thought she was not being followed.

The woman got off the bus and walked to a traffic light to walk across 59th Avenue when Burns got off the bus and approached the woman, police said

According to police, the woman received a phone call from her boss, and Burns said he did not like that she was getting a call.

He then grabbed the woman's wrist with force, according to the documents.

The woman pulled away and ran across 59th Avenue. When she didn't think she was being followed, she stopped running, police said

Police said Burns then grabbed the woman by the shoulders and pushed her up against a wall. According to documents, he asked her if she wanted to see his penis and grabbed the woman's breasts and genitals.

He then tried to pull down the woman's pants, according to police. The woman was able to call police.

Burns admitted to officers that he grabbed the woman's breasts and that she had said no. But according to the documents, "he felt it was a weird no."

Police said burns also admitted that his penis was erect and that he exposed it to the victim.

Burns blamed his actions on drugs, police said.

He faces charges of sexual assault, sexual abuse, unlawful imprisonment and assault causing fear of physical injury.
