Inmate found dead at Arizona prison; authorities believe he was murdered

The victim was sentenced last year for murder.

BUCKEYE, Ariz. (AP) - Authorities say an inmate at the state prison in Buckeye is dead and it's a suspected homicide.

Arizona Department of Corrections officials say 34-year-old Charlie Wooden was found unresponsive in his medium-custody housing unit at the Lewis complex around 8 p.m. Monday.

He was pronounced dead about 40 minutes later.

Details of Wooden's death weren't immediately released Tuesday, but Corrections Department criminal investigators suspect foul play was involved and have identified potential suspects.

Corrections officials say Wooden was sentenced out of Pima County last year to 22 years in prison for second-degree murder.

All inmate deaths are investigated in consultation with the county medical examiner's office.
