Authorities arrested a man who swerved across traffic on Interstate 10 in Tonopah early Tuesday morning, causing a rollover accident that left a child dead and four other kids, plus an adult, injured, the Department of Public Safety said Wednesday.

Litchfield Park resident Eric C. McMorris, 31, faces charges for manslaughter, aggravated assault and endangerment after the crash.

According to a DPS release, McMorris sped and swerved across traffic in a Chevrolet Tahoe with 23-year-old Kodie Johnson and five children inside.

Witnesses told DPS investigators that the SUV drove onto the median, then back across traffic before rolling in a dirt area.

Two children and Johnson were ejected from the SUV in the crash. Johnson and one child weren't properly restrained, but a girl who was restrained was ejected, too, and died from her injuries.

McMorris, Johnson and four of the children were taken to hospitals after the crash.

When McMorris was released from the hospital, he was arrested and booked into the Maricopa County Jail, DPS said.
