Armed, suicidal man dead after shot by Goodyear officer, police say

Police say this is an isolated incident and there is no danger to the surrounding community.

GOODYEAR, Ariz. — Authorities say a man is dead after a shooting involving Goodyear police Saturday night.

Police say at around 5:35 p.m., officers were called to a home near Estrella Parkway and Elliott Road about a suicidal subject who was stabbing himself with a knife.

Goodyear police say officers made contact with the man in the home's backyard, and as a result of that contact, one officer discharged their duty weapon.

The man allegedly ignored commands from police to drop the knife.

Authorities say officers rendered aid, and the man was transported to the hospital, where he was pronounced deceased. No officers were injured.

Police say this is an open and ongoing investigation, and updates will come from Surprise Police Department, which is investigating the incident.

Surprise police recently identified the deceased as 26-year-old Adam Romero. The investigation is ongoing.
