Arizona dreamer license denials rejected

The U.S. Supreme Court has rejected Arizona's plea to stop issuing drivers licenses to recipients of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program, commonly known as "dreamers."

(KVOA) The U.S. Supreme Court has rejected Arizona's plea to stop issuing drivers licenses to recipients of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program.

The plea comes from former Governor Jan Brewers 2012 Executive Order to deny licenses to DACA recipients.

"It's good news but it just goes back to the whole reality of the immigrants right movement. We have our victories such as tuition, such as drivers license for a small group of folks, that's always a challenge right," says DACA recipient Dario Andrade-Mendoza.

One immigration lawyer says Monday's decision is common sense.

"The restriction was really not based on common sense. Because who benefits from having a restriction on someone who can adequately drive, be properly insured, have the proper training and experience to get a drivers license. And having a drivers license implies you have the proper training," says Jose Vazquez.
