Bill Gates has bought up land in the far West Valley, planning to build a "smart city" about 45 minutes west of downtown Phoenix.

Belmont, the named for the proposed city, would be made up of close to 25,000 acres of land, complete with cutting-edge infrastructure built around high-speed digital networks.

There's no word on when construction will begin, but the town is expected to be the size of Tempe.
