Barrio Café keeps winning.

Last year, it was named the best Mexican restaurant in the nation. Earlier this week, it was one of two Arizona restaurants to find its way into Thrillist's top 31 Mexican joints in the U.S.

If it seems like Barrio is the state's most popular restaurant, that's because it is, according to People magazine.

People Food worked with Zagat dining experts to list every state's preferred restaurant.

"With colorful wall murals and more than 200 tequilas, this lively Mexican eatery is where chef Silvana Salcido Esparza serves signature plates like chiles en nogada in an almond-cream sauce," People wrote.

The restaurant is located near 16th Street and Thomas Road. Chef Silvana Salcido Esparza opened Barrio Café in 2002.
